Raft is an open “ocean” survival game by Red Beet Interactive. You start on a tiny raft floating in the ocean. Armed with only a hook, you will have to scavenge trash floating in the water to survive and build your raft large enough to sustain yourself. You will find islands along the way that you can pillage for food and resources. But lurking under your raft is a shark affectionately known as Bruce. He follows you everywhere, waiting for you to enter the water.

Survival
The most challenging aspect of this game is securing food and water, aside from not letting Bruce eat your raft. On islands you come across, you can harvest pineapples, watermelons, coconuts, mangos, & berries, to name a few. Once you’ve collected enough resources from the ocean, you can build a water collector.
Building a fishing rod will allow you to fish, but you will need to make a grill to cook the fish. You must keep Bruce at bay with a spear as he constantly tries to attack your raft. Expansion is vital until you can build armor for your raft. The resource aspect of this game is well-balanced and has an excellent flow. Just remember you always need more wood.
Story Islands
There are several types of islands in the game to explore, but the story islands are much larger and allow advancing in the game. As you explore the story islands, you will find blueprints that enable you to build better technology to make life easier on the raft. You will also find notes that tell a story as you progress in the game. There are two rare islands that you only have a 2% chance of finding that have special items on them. It took me 300 hours of playing the game before I found them both.
“Raft throws you and your friends into an epic oceanic adventure! Alone or together, players battle to survive a perilous voyage across a vast sea! Gather debris, scavenge reefs and build your own floating home, but be wary of the man-eating sharks!”

Building Your Raft
Arguably the best part of this game is the build system. It’s very intuitive and easy to learn. Enlarging your raft and decorating it will become the game’s central aspect for most players. Do you want a small, efficient raft or a mega ship? The raft below took me around 150 hours to build and is still a work in progress.

Farming
You will eventually or rather quickly get tired of fishing. Growing your crops is an excellent way to sustain your food supplies. You can grow flowers and trees alongside potatoes, beets, and pineapples. Flowers can be turned into the paint for your raft. At the same time, trees will supply you with food and wood or look great just as decoration.
You can also capture certain animals and bring them back to your raft. Chickens, goats, and llamas can be kept on your raft, and you can harvest eggs, milk, & wool from them. Plus, they make excellent pets.
Along your journey through the story islands, you will also be able to harvest your honey once you get beehives. Honey will allow you to make biofuel for your engines.
Once you unlock the engines and steering wheel, you will feel like a true captain of your ship. Raft has finally hit 1.0 this year after four years of early access development. 1.0 also gave us three more story islands along with more advanced blueprints.
Multiplayer
But don’t worry; you don’t have to go alone. You can play with up to 7 friends at the same time. This can make building your raft and getting through the story islands a breeze. Just remember that it takes quite a bit of food and water to support eight people.
