Admin Panel Makeover While Weathering The Storm
I Let Claude Redesign My Admin Panel
This week I decided to give my admin panel on FartDump a fresh makeover. Just as I was about to get started, my motivation died. I really need to be in the mood to play around with CSS and this week, I was not. That's when I had the idea to let AI have a whack at it, just to see what it would come up with. I downloaded the Claude desktop app and then created a folder with all of my admin files on my desktop and gave it access. I gave fairly detailed prompts then sat back and let it work.
My old admin area was dark, but I wanted it darker. Claude rewrote the entire stylesheet which was around 1300 lines already and cleaned it up and on top of that found several bugs in my existing PHP that I didn't even ask it to look for! Needless to say, I was impressed. I forgot to take a before image and don't feel like uploading backups to take one, but here is the Fart Paint! admin area as an example.
The new style is so dark that the image may not look that great, but trust me, it looks nice. Claude did such a nice job that I kept prompting it to fix other things that I have been too lazy to work on.
A big one was mobile responsiveness. I sometimes have to get on my phone while away from home to take down secrets that people post and let me tell ya, the admin area was not fun to use on mobile. I told Claude to build out mobile responsiveness with a bottom style sticky menu.
It slapped one together better than what I would have done. Now, if I need to delete that dumb comment now, it is so much easier.
All of my buttons on the old styles where cartoonish and big which I sort of modeled after the actual website where I usually go a bit outlandish with styles. Needless to say, I'm happy with it.
I have been using AI to help me with JavaScript for my games, but never trusted it to go all in tweaking with files like this before. But, I think I spent more time reading back over every file it touched to make sure it didn't do anything stupid, that I could have just done it myself. It was a fun experiment though.
Almost Broke My Step Streak
I am currently at 30 days of walking 10,000 or more steps. On work days, this is easy and I've been getting my steps in. On days off is where I was having trouble getting off my butt and moving around.
Yesterday, I almost missed it. It was 7:30pm getting dark and I was at 7500 steps. Just as I was about to go for a walk the heavens opened up. Fortunately, it only lasted for about a half an hour and I was able to get that cool image as it was passing.
My work week starts in one hour so today, I won't have an issue getting my steps in. Wish me luck!
