Big Bang Theory Cast Connections

I love The Big Bang Theory. I've seen every episode numerous times, it's routinely playing as background noise as I work on my websites. Today, the episode, "The Cooper Extraction" was playing where Sheldon is back home in Texas while his sister was giving birth. The crew back in Pasadena was pondering what life would be like if Sheldon was not in their life. This triggered a curiosity about the cast, specifically, "Why did Mayim Bialik join the cast?"

I watched Blossom quite a bit as a teen so I already loved Mayim, but why would someone with a PhD in neuroscience want to join the show? It turns out she needed insurance. So, when she found out that The Big Bang Theory was casting an equal to Sheldon, she auditioned. Her role was initially supposed to just be a one time guest appearance on the season 3 finale, but Jim Parsons convinced the writers to keep Amy Farrah Fowler around. She became a fixture from season 4 to the series finale. 

This turned out to be a good call despite audiences not liking her character at first. Amy Farrah Fowler slowly became one of the best characters in the show.

Mayim and Johnny Kiss?

This may be old news to most, but did you know Mayim and Johnny kissed on the Blossom show?

I knew about the connections to Roseanne as they were more fresh in my mind, like Leonard(Johnny Galecki) and Leslie Winkle(Sara Gilbert) were dating on the show and Sheldon's mom(Laurie Metcalf) was Sara's aunt Jackie, as well. Chuck Lorre, the show creator, was also a writer on the Roseanne show. So, that all makes sense. But, it has been so long since I have watched Blossom that I didn't realize Johnny made an appearance.

This shouldn't surprise me as Johnny has been active in acting since the 80's, but this one, so I had to share. The Big Bang Theory may be over but the show is still full of surprises.
