My First Visit To Tanyard Creek And I Found The Best Quesabirria Tacos
Tanyard Creek In Bella Vista
After five years of living in Northwest Arkansas, I finally got around to visiting Tanyard Creek. Local bloggers and influencers are constantly talking about it, and judging by the parking lot, they are doing a good job of advertising. The park is a bit small as the walking trail is only about 2 miles, but I was still able to get a decent workout going up and down the bluffs.
About 100 yards downstream of the Lake Windsor effluent the stream takes a nosedive into the creek below. The result is a beautiful, year-round water fall. The stream below is shallow allowing for folks to relax in the water. Though the parking lot was bursting at the seams the day I visited, the park didn't feel over crowded.
I decided not to play in the water today, but I should have as it was 90 degrees. That's insane for March! Luckily, most of the trail was shaded so it wasn't too bad of a hike. Watching the creek disappear into the bluffs was really cool as well.
There is also a small suspension bridge, but I got turned around somehow and didn't go that way. Once I realized I had missed it, I left anyway. Now, I have a reason to go back since I haven't seen everything. Plus, my phone was going off. My girlfriend wasn't feeling great so she stayed at home. She wasn't feeling too bad as she kept texting me to see if I would pick up some quesabirria tacos from our favorite food truck.
There is a story there too.
The quest for birria tacos
About 6 months ago, while visiting Señor Shreddy's in Osage Park, Bentonville, they talked me into breaking away from my usual order of carne asada street tacos and try one birria taco with my order. It was so good that I haven't had a carne asada street taco since that day. In fact, I've been on a side mission to try birria tacos at other places as well. I took my girlfriend to Casa Alejo in Rogers and talked her into trying their birria tacos with me. They were amazing! Now she was hooked as well. I actually took a pic of the food as it looked so good.
Casa Alejo also had the best refried beans I have ever had. If you are in Rogers, Arkansas you should check them out. However, I found something even better.
Quesabirria is better than birria
About six weeks ago, we were in Springdale and about to head home and she said, "Let's go get some birria tacos." Rogers was on the way so we started heading up towards Casa Alejo when I said, "Let's see if any of the food trucks in downtown Rogers have birria tacos." So, after a quick Google search we found a food truck just a few blocks away from the other restaurant called Tacos y Quesabirras "El Chubeto" which is a mouthful, but so is their food.
I loved birria tacos, but quesabirria tacos? OMG! They are a combination of birria tacos and a quesadilla if you have never heard of them. They are also served with consommé and this particular food truck also has the best hot sauce ever!
I'm not huge on taking pictures of my food, but the next time I order it, I will, for this post. Which will be next week, because we have been back once a week for the last six weeks.
Update: It has been a few weeks and I kept forgetting to take a picture, but today I remembered. It is terrible quality but.... yeah. It tasted so damn good!
Wisedocks was resurrected from the dead about 4 years ago, simply as a place to vent and talk about daily life and my adventures in NWA. I have forgotten that along the way as building websites has nearly taken over my life entirely. But, I will start trying to put out more posts like this in the future.
